Etymology[edit]
From Old Iranian *hinduka, akin to Old Persian [script needed] (*hinduka) from 𐏃𐎡𐎯𐎢𐏁 (h-i-du-u-š /hindūš/, “India”), from Proto-Iranian *hínduš, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *síndʰuš (“river”), of uncertain origin.
