Albanian[edit]

Etymology 1[edit]

Either from zemër with the meaning of 'centre of the day', or from the same root of Greek ημέρα (iméra, day), although the initial anlaut z- remains unexplained. A borrowing from Greek διήμερον (diímeron, period of twenty-four hours) is not excluded.[1]
