Cognate with Kalmyk батраш (batraş), ultimately from an Iranian source, perhaps Persian بادرنگ (bâdrang, citron, cucumber) (for the meaning compare Manichaean Parthian wʾdrwng (wādrūng, lemon balm, balm mint)).
