Moksha[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Cognate with Erzya кортамс (kortams), both Mordvinic terms having the meaning “to speak/talk, convince” (in Moksha also “to testify”). According to Veršinin, ultimately of onomatopoeic origin. Possible cognates include Eastern Mari кутыраш (kutyraš, to converse, talk), Finnish kertoa (to tell).[1]
