Etymology[edit]
From Arabic يَعْنِي (yaʕnī), third-person masculine singular of عَنَى (ʕanā, “to mean”); cognate to native ܥܵܢܹܐ (ˁānē) and Hebrew עָנָה ('aná, “to answer”).
