Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀢𑀮𑀤𑀺 (taladi), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *talati. Compare Punjabi ਤਲਣਾ (talṇā), Gujarati તળવું (taḷvũ), Marathi तळणे (taḷṇe), Odia ତଳିବା (tôḷiba).[1]
