Etymology[edit]
From Hokkien 雜菜/杂菜 (cha̍p-chhài, “mixed vegetables”) or Teochew 雜菜/杂菜 (zab8 cai3, “mixed vegetables”). Compare Indonesian capcai, Singapore English chap chye, Thai จับฉ่าย (jàp-chàai), English japchae, Korean 잡채(雜菜) (japchae).
