Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

藥娘

  1. (neologism) trans girl who is undergoing HRT
    Synonym: 小藥娘小药娘

Usage notes[edit]

  • (yào) is sometimes replaced with (táng, “candy”) (e.g. (tángniáng) or (tángjī)) to circumvent censorship of transgender-related topics on websites like Zhihu.
  • The suffix (niáng, “girl; young woman”) is taken from the ACG subculture which has the potential negative effects of reinforcing gender stereotypes and encouraging objectification of women. More formal terms for trans women (in general) include MtF and 跨性別女性跨性别女性 (kuàxìngbié nǚxìng).
