Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-European *bʰerH- (“to carve; split; cut; rub; pierce; strike”). Equivalent to *burō (“bore”) + *-ōną. Cognate with Latin forō (“bore”, verb), Proto-Slavic *borti (“to fight”).
