@JohnC5, Victar, CodeCat: Dear all Why is the Proto Germanic form not with an initial *kw as one would expect *gʷ to give? Why is the accent on e when the only 2 languages that attest the accent agree that it's on u Thanks 49.35.10.19 15:44, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

The first question is answered with the Boukolos rule, which continued to operate into Proto-Germanic. —CodeCat 16:55, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
The second has to do this the predictions of Indo-European morpho-phonology as well as the fact that neither Ancient Greek nor Sanskrit had an accent paradigm which had a mobile accent for polysyllabic nominatives that showed oxytonic stress in the oblique cases. —JohnC5 17:22, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Latin: grāvis[edit]

@JohnC5, Victar, CodeCat: Excuse me, is there a reason why Latin: grāvis "heavy" shouldn't be here? Considering Latin usually reflects PIE u-stem adjectives as full grade + -vis and typically delabialises PIE labialised velars before liquids, it seems like a perfect fit to me. 189.92.97.56 15:10, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
