‘Tijdig’ literally means timely or on time. Hence: ‘vroegtijdig’ or ‘voortijdig’ (premature/untimely), ‘laattijdig’ (belated). Swift, I should translate as ‘gezwind’ or ‘vlug’. ‘Tijdelijk’, by contrast, means ‘temporary’.
