Etymology and meaning[edit]

@Ysrael214 When this term first emerged? Is this meaning not serious (said of a romantic relationship)? Is this also a hot term? TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 01:50, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@TagaSanPedroAko I don't think this doesn't merit an entry. This is literally, a relationship without labels and not Philippine exclusive. Ysrael214 (talk) 01:52, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ysrael214 The main question with this now is when this first emerged. To me, like from 2020 or even around 2010s. Basically recent slang.::TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 01:54, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@TagaSanPedroAko This isn't recent. Not a hot term. Probably even older than "mutual understanding". Maybe in the 80s or 90s. "Walang label" doesn't mean only "not serious of a relationship". It literally means "no labels" as is, without deeper meaning. In dating, there is a concept of "labels". "No label relationship" doesn't mean non-serious. It means "no labels". It could be serious but it just isn't labelled yet officially as "boyfriend/girlfriend". Ysrael214 (talk) 02:05, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@TagaSanPedroAko This seems Sum of parts to me. Ysrael214 (talk) 02:05, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ysrael214 Ok, this can be older that MU, but this has just been the hot relationship-related slang. We could have most common slang now, but we're not catching with some new or re-emerging old-generation slang. Basically, this one is one of those.

@TagaSanPedroAko I'm gonna try to find something older than this
https://www.philstar.com/pang-masa/punto-mo/2014/07/23/1349329/parang-kayo-pero-hindi-naman
but kinda hard since Internet hasn't existed back then in the PH, and nobody really writes those stuff that can be archived in Google. Written more on hard copies that can be found in bookstores.
2008 thing:

Not exactly walang label, but the concept of labels exist prior to 2010s in the PH. Ysrael214 (talk) 02:27, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ysrael214 I could have brought this up in your talk instead of just creating this and bringing up discussion. --TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 02:46, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@TagaSanPedroAko I see, valid point. Maybe just one thread where you can ask instead. And each entry you want to ask, maybe in that same thread. Ysrael214 (talk) 03:36, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@TagaSanPedroAko By the way, even if you have labels, sometimes people are still unserious lol. Like, some short term flings yet it's official and has a label. Ysrael214 (talk) 13:07, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
By the way, since you're here, thoughts? @Mar vin kaiser Ysrael214 (talk) 03:43, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ysrael214, TagaSanPedroAko: I would delete this entry under SOP, then create a new entry leybel (of which there is lots of attestation in publications) then list the meanings, and put one of the slang meanings as something like an "official relationship status", such that if you have a "leybel", you have made it official that you have a relationship of being boyfriend and girlfriend, for example. And if you don't have a "leybel", you don't have the status of being boyfriend and girlfriend yet. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 04:36, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
