From a- (agent prefix) +‎ +‎ ogbó (elderliness, old age), literally One who has become one of old age, compare with Olukumi árígbó and Itsekiri eligbó, proposed to be derived from Proto-Yoruba *a-rígbó, perhaps ultimately from a proto Edekiri form, though gbó (to be old), can be traced back to Proto-Yoruboid
