Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From a Vulgar Latin or Late Latin excapitō (meaning "decapitate" in its attested form, but the Romance descendants may derive from an unattested sense of "to conclude, finish, reach the end of" which developed later, or possibly "to decrease, diminish"), from Latin caput. Compare Romanian scăpăta, scapăt, Italian scapitare, cf. also Megleno-Romanian dăscapit, dăscăpitari.

Verb[edit]

ascapit first-singular present indicative (third-person singular present indicative ascãpitã, past participle ascãpitatã)

  1. (of heavenly bodies such as the sun, moon, etc.) to set, go down, disappear behind the horizon
