Compound of juru (“worker; skilled man; professional”) + rawat, from Malay jururawat, from Javanese ꦗꦸꦫꦸꦫꦮꦠ꧀ (jururawat, “nurse”). Compare to Japanese 看護師 (kangoshi, literally “nurse + expert”).
