From Proto-Albanian *klaina, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱloi-n-os (slanting, askew) (compare Irish claon, Gothic 𐌷𐌻𐌰𐌹𐌽𐌴 (hlainē)), from *ḱlei- (to slant, lean) (compare English lean, Lithuanian šliẽti, Serbo-Croatian slȏj (layer)).[1]
