Inherited from Old Polish zwać, from Proto-Slavic *zъvati (stem *zov-), from Proto-Balto-Slavic, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰuH-e-ti, zero-grade root present of *ǵʰewH- (“to call on, invoke”).
