Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably of the same origin as synonymous 외잘만 (oejalman), which is an abbreviation of 외자 (oeja) + 할마니 (halmani).[1] Compare coastal gyeonggi 오잘머니 (ojalmeoni), 오자라버지 (ojarabeoji), which appear to have been borrowed or influenced from the Hwanghae dialect.

Noun[edit]

외잘머니 (oejalmeoni)

  1. Hwanghae form of 외할머니 (oehalmeoni, maternal grandmother)
    • 1996 January 2, 이영로 [iyeongno], “연평도의 방언 [yeonpyeongdoui bang'eon]”, in 연평도 이야기 [yeonpyeongdo iyagi]‎[1], 인천광역시 옹진군 연평면 [incheon'gwang'yeoksi ongjin'gun yeonpyeongmyeon]:
      오늘 외잘머니 거다
