Macanese[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Possibly a calque of Cantonese 落雨 (lok6 jyu5, literally “fall rain”).
Verb[edit]
- to rain
- Azinha vai casa-ia, logo cai chuva
- Let's get home quickly, it's going to rain
Usage notes[edit]
- By and large, Macanese does not have a separate one-word verb for raining, i.e. there is no *chovê or *chuvê derived from Portuguese chover.
